How to Get the Best Wash!

Washing your car manually is still one of the safest, most effective ways to clean your vehicle.  While automatic washes do provide the convenience of staying in your vehicle, staying dry, and spending a flat rate, they don't always get those hard to reach areas you really care about.  Here is a break down of each setting in the manual wash bay, how to use it effectively, and how much time to spend on each setting!

Whitewall Tire Degreaser

Formula 555

Tire Degreaser

Why tire degreaser first, you might ask?  It's best to apply tire degreaser at the beginning of your washing, mainly due to the fact that the degreaser needs time to settle onto the rim and tire while you perform your presoak.  Degreaser pulls oils, grease, dirt, and grime from the rim and tire that collect from various road conditions.  This helps reduce corrosion and gives your tires a longer life and a cleaner shine.  This process should take 30-60 seconds.  Coat all four tires, then move to step 2.

Pre-Soak

Pre-soaking is an important part of this process.  Pre-soaking allows surface dirt to roll off and deeper stains to loosen in preparation for a high-pressure foam.  While the mist may seem light, it does contain a soap that helps loosen up surface debris.  Many skip this step, however, to ensure as close to a streak-free result as possible, it is recommended that you presoak.  Imagine this step like soaking your heavily soiled dishes before putting them in the dishwasher!  This step should take no more than 60-90 seconds.  Ensure to evenly distribute the light foam over all surfaces.  Do your best not to wash away the tire degreaser yet.

High Pressure Soap

Once you've pre-soaked, it's time to loosen up as much dirt as possible.  Use the high-pressure soap evenly over all surfaces.  For best results, spray at an angle on all surfaces, rather than head-on.  Take your time with this step; it is important for the soap to scrub in conjunction with the high-pressure stream.  Try to keep the spray within 1 to 1 1/2' from the vehicle.  Too much distance from the surface can lessen the effectiveness.  At this point, it is okay to spray off the tires.  This step should take 90-120 seconds.

Foaming Brush

Everyone's favorite part!  Your foaming brush is designed to help do most of the work!  Once you've completed your high-pressure soap, generously apply foam and scrub the vehicle everywhere you can reach.  The bristles are soft enough to be scratch and worry-free.  If you have followed the previous steps, the foaming brush should be able to easily lift debris, dirt, grease, and more off the surface, leaving behind a smooth finish.  This step should take 60-120 seconds, but since it's so fun, take as long as you want!

High Pressure Rinse

It is important at this step to ensure that you use the high-pressure rinse on every inch of the vehicle.  Use a wide, sweeping motion, starting from the front/side of the vehicle and work your way backward.  Don't forget to spray/scrub the top of the vehicle, this is a commonly missed area.  Ensure that you rinse out the grill, the wiper area, and the inside of your wheel wells.  Often, debris builds up under the wheel wells (especially ice in the winter) which can cause a shake or vibration.  The heated high pressure spray will help loosen this and remove it!  This step should take 60-90 seconds.

High Pressure Wax (Optional but Recommended)

The key to getting the most bang for your buck is preserving everything you just did.  Waxing your vehicle by hand and cloth is worth it, but tedious and time-consuming.  Want to preserve that new shine you just applied?  Hit the surface with our high-pressure wax.  This will apply a thin layer of wax to the surface, which causes water to bead and fall off the car.  It's so effective you'll see the results as soon as you apply it.  Perform this step for 60-90 seconds over the whole vehicle for best results.

Spot Free Rinse

The final step.  The spot free rinse is the one step that can help achieve that smooth finish.  After waxing and soaping the vehicle, there are still streaks of water settling on the surface.  The spot free rinse helps break up streaks of water, leaving a very thin layer of moisture that is less likely to dry as a water spot or streak.  The spot free rinse is designed to be a quick and easy finishing touch.  Take 30-60 seconds, walk the perimeter of the vehicle and apply this thin mist to the car, allowing it to settle and roll off gently as you pull out of the bay.  Congratulations, you've now properly cared for your vehicle, protected it, and are back to riding in style!
